XCEL has many similarities and differences when compared to the JO program. We still compete in all events and go to competitions in the winter months and early spring months. We have athletes that range from the beginner bronze division. All the way to the advanced levels of the platinum division. The goal for my team is to work on developing their gymnastics skills, strength, flexibility, and balance while still maintaining a fun environment for the athletes themselves.
One of the main differences between the Compulsory program and the XCEL program is we do not have routines we have to follow. We as coaches choose which skills go into their routine and are able to change it on a peer-to-peer basis if needed. This allows the gymnasts to perform to their strengths while working on their weaknesses.
The XCEL teams will go to 4 sanctioned meets throughout the year. If qualified they will then go to the state meet. Gold, Platinum, and Diamond team athletes have a chance to qualify for a regional competition that is generally out of state.
If you believe that this program is a fit for you here at WCC or if you have any questions. Please do not hesitate to contact the director, Casey Hurst in order to set up a trial with the team or to ask questions.
